Legal Advocacy Fund

When eleven faculty who said Cornell University denied them tenure because they were women asked AAUW for funding, they inspired a concept that helps all women speak out for justice. Out of AAUW's support for that case grew the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF), which is the nation's largest fund supporting women fighting sex discrimination in higher education.

Since 1981 the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund has helped students, faculty, staff, and administrators in higher education challenge discriminatory practice such as sexual harassment, denial of tenure or promotion, pay inequity, and inequality in women’s athletics programs.
